Maino (@mainohustlehard) pays tribute to the late great Kalief Browder.
For those unfamiliar, Kalief was a teen from the Bronx who was falsely imprisoned at Rikers Island.
Browder stood up against the crooked penal system that kept him locked up because he refused to plea guilty for a crime he didn’t commit. Unfortunately, by the time he was released, the damage had already been done.
Kalief suffered from severe post trauma, paranoia, mental/emotional duress from his imprisonment and eventually committed suicide. His tragic story was so impactful, that just days ago, Mayor De Blasio (of New York City) announced the shuttering of Rikers Island. R.I.P Kalief and Venida Browder.
